Taste of Shetland 2008 From the 19th - 22nd June 2007
After a cold start on Thursday and Friday and some real extreme weather for locals and visitors, Saturday turned out a geat day. The weather settled down and the sun shone and we were all heads down serving customers all day.
I had the highest accolade on our Lamb Burgers on Thursday when my grand nephew who was home visiting from Texas, the home of the 'real burger', wanted more of Aunty Marjories burgers!!! Splashing around in the puddles in her red wellies and matching raincoat, not called for too much in Texas, his 3 year old sister scoffed the whole 5" burger before we could blink.
On Saturday there were thousands waiting to descend on the pier and enjoy some good weather, feast on Shetland Products, enjoy the fantastic selection of musicians performing and catch up with old friends.
Bikers at the Simmer Dim Rally came past having experienced a real Shetland gale on thursday night, they were replenishing camping supplies but in good spirits and getting out of biker gear on Saturday night came to Lerwick by bus to enjoy the festivities.
Visiting yachts were safely berthed and once again the Scandinavian contingent swept thought the lamb shanks and this time went off with boxes full of Seafood Pizza.
Taste of Shetland 2007 From the 21st - 24th June 2007
Another 'Flavour of Shetland' week-end under our belt and a very successful one at that. We sold out our new dish, 'Saucermaet Kofta', on the first day and hurredly sent for more saucermaet from the Scalloway Butcher producing more each day to satisy the appetites of the thousands of people who visited our stand over the week-end.
Our Norwegian visitors kept coming back for lamb shanks and within a day we'd sold the last of ours and had to scour the island butcher shops for more. Our Lamburgers were by the far the most popular thing going with over 1000 sold on Saturday.
As Eleanor put it 'the Q lasted form 11am til 5pm and then 3 red faces looked up' (from behind the counter). If you were quick the Q did end at times, but only if you looked up for longer than a few seconds could you spot this. The Scalloway Butcher had to turn out to and make more burgers on Sat afternoon/Suday morning and Charlie Hodge who was hoping to get some sleep before getting up in the middle of the night to bake Sundays supply of Burger buns was rudely awakened, as far away as Walls, and turned out to make another 250 burger rolls for the end of Saturday night - unseen heros indeed.
And once again, Lamb Korma, a firm favourite since last year, people came back looking for it and we kept on supplying til the last man went home on Sunday night.
Marjorie takes a welcome break with Mam & Dad enjoying the festive atmosphere on the pier...
...and back at Herrislea kitchen Susan works hard to keep up with our calls for more supplies, even though a bit frazzled
