A beautiful and challenging hike around the Hams o’ Muckle Roe is one that should be on all Shetland bucket lists!
We passed the Muckle Ayre – a lovely red beach – on our way to the lighthouse. The geography of the Hams is fascinating with stacks, cliffs and arches. There’s so much history here: from a ruined Norse mill, to ruins of homes when this area was alive with smuggling from the Faroes. You can also get a fabulous view across to Vementry where First World War guns were stationed.
There’s so much of Shetland to explore. We would be happy to help any of our guests find out more just ask at reception and we will be happy to accommodate you explore any part of Shetland you like!
